The Language Technologist is responsible for programmatically converting lexical and terminological resources into the Language Base Exchange (LBX) and LBX-TBX (Terminology Base Exchange) XML schema formats. In addition to the base LCAT requirements, the following are highly desired skills and much more important that the foreign language experience:
- Familiarity with Perl, shell programming experience, and Linux, Linux validation tools
- Experience with legacy encodings and encoding
 
The Language Technologist processes and maintains language artifacts (i.e. lexicons, term bases, word nets, taxonomies, ontologies). Applies analytic techniques to improve performance of assigned lexicons. Leverages understanding of linguistics and assigned language to improve machine translation performance. Prepares test cases to assure proper performance. Collects corpora and evaluates performance of language identification modules.
